On Friday, September 18th, 2015, Michael Dean Edwards, 66, left our world to get a better view. Michael was a resident of Navarre, FL, where he lived with the love of his life, Renee Fowler, and their dogs, Abby and Foxy. After a long battle with COPD and Congestive Heart Failure, he spent much of the last months of his life enjoying the simple things: How fast the grandkids would run to get him more Gummy Worms, Netflix and Showtime Movies on Demand, the latest Fox News opinions about the Presidential nominees for 2016, the specs on his Audi S4, and as a chronic ‘backseat driver’.
Michael Edwards was born and raised in Charlotte, NC to parents Norman and Audrey Hale Edwards and older brother Eddy. During his childhood, Mike developed his love for books, his ability to most often be right, and his unique sense of humor. He followed in his father’s and older brother’s footsteps and joined the military as a member of the U.S. Air Force, retiring after over 23 years of service with numerous awards and honors. However, Michael’s service to our country did not stop there. After retirement from active duty in the Air Force, Michael pursued various operations and finance positions, serving for 15 years as a civilian employee for the Department of Defense, Air Force Materiel Command.
Michael’s educational history includes an Associates in Applied Sciences in Air Traffic Control from the Community College of the Air Force, and a Bachelor’s in Applied Arts and Sciences in Interdisciplinary Management from Southwest Texas State University.
Michael is survived by his girlfriend of over 15 years, Renee Fowler, of Navarre, Florida; his daughter, Rowena Edwards, of Warner Robbins, GA; his son and daughter-in-law, Dale and Christina Edwards of Wake Forest, NC; his brother, Eddy Edwards, of New Orleans, LA; his sister-in-law, Patricia Edwards, of Charlotte, NC; his grandchildren, Jasmine Stephens, Joshua Drumm and Gavin Edwards, and his beloved Audi S4. Michael was predeceased by his father, Earnest Norman Edwards and mother, Audrey ‘Tze’ Edwards of Charlotte, NC.
Michael was a life-long learner known for his knowledge, opinions and advice on topic far and wide. Michael will be missed not only by his friends and family, but also by the Literary Guild, manufacturers of books on tape, Best Buy and magazine companies everywhere.
A graveside service will be held by McEwen Funeral Services at Sharon Memorial Park in Charlotte on Saturday, September 26th, 2015 at 2:00 PM. In lieu of customary remembrances, charitable donations should be made to Disabled American Veterans via http://www.dav.org/Donate.
