Michael Irwin

Michael Alan Irwin (Mike) passed away June 18, 2013 at The Levine & Dixon Hospice House at Southmister in Charlotte, NC. Born on September 20, 1951 in San Diego, CA, Mike was the first son of Ann Atkins Irwin and the late Clyde Edwin Irwin, Jr. Mike was an active member of First United Methodist Church where he was involved in the youth choir and The Boy Scouts, achieving the rank of an Eagle Scout. Mike graduated from South Mecklenburg High School in 1969 and went on to study Biology at North Carolina State University where he was a member of Phi Kappa Tau Fraternity and graduated a Senior Scholar in 1973. After college he worked as a graduate assistant in Biology at The University of Tennessee and taught freshman Biology. Mike also worked at Knight Publishing in Charlotte.

He is survived by his mother Ann Irwin, of Charlotte, NC; aunt Virginia Atkins, of Charlotte, NC; brother Steve Irwin (Susan) of Charlotte, NC; sister Cathy Irwin Holland (David) of Lake Tillery, NC; sister Martha Irwin Butler (Stan) of Greensboro, NC; brother Doug Irwin (Karen) of Charlotte, NC; along with nieces and nephews, Jonathan Butler, Brett Holland, Natalie Irwin-Mitchell, Wes Butler, Mollie Butler, Drew Holland, Nicholas Irwin, Kristie Butler, Dylan Irwin, Avery Irwin, and Elliot Irwin and five grand nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Clyde Edwin Irwin, Jr., his uncles, Dr. Sam Atkins and Ned. C. Irwin and his grandparents.
