Michael A. Smith of Orlando Florida, formerly of West Bridgewater, Massachusetts died on January 5th from complications due to Alzheimer's. He was born March 10th 1941 to Donald P. and Svea A. (Lindquist) Smith. He was a graduate of West Bridgewater High School Class of 1959. While still in high school he followed in his father's footsteps and became a bricklayer and stone mason. In his late twenties he gave up the often unpredictable and seasonal work for employment at Logan International Airport in Boston in order to have a more stable income for his family. He worked as a ramp serviceman for 42 years with TWA and American Airlines until his retirement.
He started playing guitar as a teenager and had many fun music sessions over the years at his home with friends and family. He and his wife Carol played Christian music (with guitars) for many churches and church gatherings including three prison concerts; two at OCCC in Bridgewater and one at Norfolk Prison. In his free time he loved playing ping pong with family and friends and was always up for a game of Wiffle ball with the "old timers" at family gatherings.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Carol G. (Crawford) Smith, four daughters, Victoria Hutsell of Mountain Grove, MO, Rachel Smith of Charlotte, NC, Jessica Spry of West Bridgewater, MA, and Jennifer Carol of Carver, MA, six grandchildren; Allison, Tanner, Jordan, and Samantha Hutsell of Mountain Grove, MO, Paige and Lucas Quindley of Carver, MA, and three honorary grandchildren; Rebecca, Daniel and Joshua Smith of West Bridgewater, MA, two sisters, Donna Hallinan and husband Paul, and Sally Ringuette and husband Bob all of East Bridgewater, MA, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends, all of whom will miss him very much.
There will be a memorial service on Saturday, January 21, 2017 at Calvary Temple Assembly of God Church, 4321 North Main Street, Fall River, MA at 11 am.
Arrangements under the direction of Forest Lawn West Funeral & Cremation Service, Charlotte, NC.
