

A lifelong Charlottean, Mike was born December 24, 1945. Following graduation from Harding High School, Mike served stateside in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War and remained very patriotic throughout his life.
For twenty-eight years, Mike owned and operated Creative Laminating and was fiercely loyal to his customers. For the past eight years, Mike continued to serve his customers while working with Flex Finishing. He will always be remembered for his stories and his sense of humor. Wherever Mike was, there was laughter!
Mike is survived by his wife, Nancy W. Wilson with whom he would have celebrated his 50th wedding anniversary in September. The love they shared has been a shining example for their family. Mike and Nancy spent many happy hours at their beach home at Oak Island with friends and family and especially loved watching the boats as they came up the Cape Fear River in Southport.
He is also survived by his daughters, Michelle Shimberg (Cliff) and Melanie Wilson; and was known as “Poppi” to his two beloved grandchildren, Madison and Cole Shimberg.
Also surviving are his mother, Lillian Fleming; his brother, Dan Fleming (Linda); and nephews, Daniel and Austin Fleming; his “sister”, Donna Lane; and numerous cousins and extended family; as well as his beloved grandkitties, Bobo and Miss Lemoney.
Mike was preceded in death by his grandmother, Florence Thompson, affectionately known as “Momma”, whom he adored.
A service to celebrate Mike’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 30th at Harry & Bryant’s “Chapel in the Oaks”. His family will receive friends at the funeral home for one hour prior to the service. Interment with military honors will follow in Sharon Memorial Park.
