On November 24, 1929 a precious gift was given to the late Saimone Mavae Lolohea of Neiafu Vavau’, and the late Melefehi Funaki of Hunga Kuanufa Vanauá.
She was the second of five children; Tuilalotonga, Dr. Solomone Halaapiapi, Manuekaho, Sela Kolo Fakaanga, and Siosiana.
Our mother was very talented; she was schooled under the Catholic nuns. They taught her home making skills; needlework with fine linens was her expertise. She was well educated and she was a teacher. She listened to the teachings of the prophet. She wrote journals throughout her life. Today we witness many journals that she has left for us.
In 1952 she married our father and they had 10 children; Fatafehi Manutalaaho Vea (Kaumavae), Seini Tonga Vailahi (Sione), Salesi Tonga ( Melaia),Saimone Lolohea Tonga ( Ofa),Lopeti Tonga (Joyce), Mele Vunivesi Tonga ( Sione Tualau), Loleini Tonga, Tonga Kulaea Jolly (Daniel), Olivia Tonga Uaisele (Tevita Kuluni), and Ofa he Fonua Tonga (Fiefia).
She has 53 grandchildren. She has 96 great grandchildren. She has 3 great-great grandchildren.
She served two years mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, along with 6 of her children and I was the Blessing. She was a devoted mother and pioneer. She mixed terrific self-discipline and dedication with faith and trust in God and the power of prayer ceaselessly.
To meet Muomua Ki Tongais is to feel utterly humble, to sense the power of tenderness, the strength of love, gentleness, compassion which radiated from this tiny woman.
She professed no fear of dying. Death is returning home to be with Heavenly Father and her beloved families. She left mortal life cheerfully and peacefully surrounded by her loving families.
Until we meet again our Precious Pearl.
