Nancy Ann Acitelli

Born in upstate New York, Nancy attended Seton Catholic Central High School in Binghamton, NY before relocating with her family to Charlotte in 1979. In 1980, she became the first of eight siblings to graduate from Charlotte Catholic High School. She earned a bachelor of science in textile design from North Carolina State University, and was awarded a scholarship to study in Scotland.

Following graduation, Nancy worked as a fabric designer in North Carolina textiles while that industry was at its peak. Her designs were bestsellers for several leading furniture manufacturers. She later trained as a web designer at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and designed software for Bank of America, Wells Fargo, and other clients.

Nancy volunteered in leadership roles at the Chapel Hill-Carrboro Jaycees before relocating to downtown Charlotte, where she was active for a time at St. Peter’s Catholic Church.

An avid traveler, Nancy had a particular fondness for Italy’s Abruzzo region, where her paternal grandparents were born and raised and where she had relatives. A devoted aunt and godparent, she never missed the opportunity to purchase the perfect gift. She adored the ideal of the close-knit Italian-American family, and strove until her end to realize it.

Nancy is survived by her parents, Mario and Joan Acitelli of Charlotte; siblings Catherine Picone (Larry) of Matthews, N.C.; A.J. Acitelli (Beth) of Weddington, N.C.; Maria Kassouf (Jeff) of Welcome, N.C.; Carrie Stoehr (John) of Charlotte; Liz Roberts (Jason) of Waxhaw, N.C.; Mark Acitelli of Charlotte; and Tom Acitelli (Elizabeth) of Cambridge, Mass.; numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews; cousins; and other relatives.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church in Charlotte on Dec. 29, 2017 at 2 p.m., with visitation beginning at 12:30.

In lieu of flowers, donations should be made in Nancy Acitelli’s name to the V Foundation for Cancer Research.
