Nancy was born in 1946 in Akron, OH, to Stuart and Elise Shields. She grew up in Ohio and Florida. Nancy graduated from Titusville High School (Titusville, FL) in 1964 and attended The Orange Memorial Hospital School of Nursing.
She lived for more than 30 years in Colorado and Montana. She married her beloved Richard Kay in 1992. In 2005, she retired to Charleston.
Nancy loved art, music, and history, and could talk about those subjects for hours. She was an enthusiastic painter, and low country landscapes were her favorite subject. A true water aficionado, she loved the ocean... and hated to get out of the swimming pool.
Nancy never saw a party she didn’t want to attend, a beach she didn’t want to walk on, a baby she didn’t want to squeeze, a perfume she didn’t want to spray, or a purse she didn’t want to buy.
Nancy was preceded in death by her husband, Richard, in 2004. She is survived by her daughters Leslie Nicholson, Tori Brovet, and Nicole Cantu; sons-in-law Tony Nicholson, Chris Cantu, and Rich Izzo; godchildren of her heart Colin and Erin Nicholson; and cousin Melville Miller. She also leaves behind many sad friends at her church, St. Andrews Parish United Methodist.
Her family would like to extend our gratitude to all the staff at the PruittHealth Nursing Home in Rock Hill, SC, for their attentiveness and loving care. You made her last month very happy.
A celebration of her life will be held this coming spring in Charleston, SC. Flowers should be sent to someone you love. Donations should be made to the homeless shelter of your choice.
