Niels Frederik Oluf Nielsen

Oluf Nielsen, age 93, of Charlotte, died Monday, May 9, 2011 at Wilora Lake Health Care Center. Mr. Nielsen was born to the late Jens Christian Octavius Nielsen and Juliane Dorthea Christiansen Nielsen on September 17, 1917 in Lunde, Denmark. He graduated in 1941 from the Copenhagen Polytechnical Institute with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He married Esther Birgit Rasmussen on February 20, 1957. Before moving to Charlotte, they resided in Raleigh for 23 years, where he was very active in the Friends of Scandinavia and the Kiwanis Club. A member of Hickory Grove Presbyterian Church, Mr. Nielsen was also active in the Scandinavian American General Assembly, the Salvation Army, as well as Meals on Wheels. He loved photography, videography, traveling, and celebrating his Danish heritage.

The memorial service to celebrate the life of Oluf Nielsen will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, May 21, 2011 at Hickory Grove Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Kate Murphy officiating.

Mr. Nielsen is survived by his daughter, Diana Nielsen Moore and grandson, Christian Frederick Moore, both of Charlotte; ten nieces, Anne Marie Simonsen, Kirsten Rasmussen, Karen Agertoft, Eva Ojvind-Skaarup, Marianne Moller, Karin Paludan, Charlotte Mollegaard, Anne Huskind, Lillian Jorgensen and Henriette Iverson, three nephews, Ove Banggaard, Kjeld Banggaard and Jens Jorgen Nielsen and a sister-in-law, Gerda Nielsen, all of Denmark. In addition to his parents, Mr. Nielsen was preceded in death by his wife, Esther, on October 20, 2010, as well as four siblings.
