

Nora was born on May 13, 1923 in Chattanooga, Tennessee to the late Charlie and Flora Meadows. She married the love of her life, David A. Varner, and together they had five children. Nora cherished being a wife and mother to her husband and children and Nanny to her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great children. Throughout her life, she always centered her family and prioritized creating lasting memories with her husband, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
Nora was very sociable and could easily make friends with her caring and loving spirit. She could be fiesty at times and had the ability to make anyone laugh. She was a joy to be around and loved to spend time with the people she loved most, especially if it was game night or at a hockey game. Throughout her life, Nora enjoyed traveling and cooking for her friends and family. In her later years, she enjoyed working on word searches. If there was one thing you could count on, it was that Nora would always make sure to have her favorite drink. Whether it be a Starbucks or a Bloody Mary, she was happy with a cup in her hand.
While she lived in Knoxville, Tennessee, she was a member of Vestal United Methodist Church and once she moved to Charlotte, North Carolina, she attended The Vine United Methodist Church, formerly Kilgo United Methodist Church.
In addition to her parents, Nora was predeceased by her husband, David A. Varner; her sons, David Varner III and Ken Varner; daughter, Donna Varner; and grandson, Donnie Sides, Jr.
She is survived by her daughters, Delores A. Varner and Connie Sides; grandchildren, Kathy Baughman and Shelly Sturgis; and her great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
A visitation to celebrate Nora's life will be held Saturday, July 26, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at The Vine United Methodist Church, 2101 Belvedere Ave, Charlotte, NC 28205. Nora will be laid to rest beside her husband at Woodlawn Cemetery in Knoxville, Tennessee.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Nora's honor to The Vine United Methodist Church.
