It is with great reverence that we celebrate the life of Olen Ray Thomas, who peacefully passed away at his home on March 5, 2026, at the venerable age of 92. Olen was born on September 1, 1933, in the quaint and nurturing community of Donaldson Creek, Kentucky, to the late John Cullen and Myrtle Chewning Thomas. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend who lived a life filled with love, service, and dedication, leaving a remarkable legacy that will be cherished by all who knew him.
Olen was a proud alumnus of Trigg County High School, Class of 1951, and a devoted scholar who pursued higher education at Western Kentucky University and the University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy. His dedication to learning was evident throughout his career as a pharmacist, where he served the community of Mayfield, Kentucky, with unwavering commitment and compassion. Olen's career spanned decades, during which he became a trusted partner at Wilson Rexall Drugs alongside Bill Benjamin. He retired in 1997, leaving behind a lasting impact on the countless lives he touched through his work.
A veteran who served his country with honor, Olen was a Hospital Corpsman with the United States Navy and Marines during the Korean War, stationed with the 3rd Marine Division in Okinawa. His service is a testament to his courage and dedication to the well-being of others, a trait that he carried throughout his life.
In 1960, Olen married the love of his life, Martha Sue "Suzie" Holland, with whom he shared 65 beautiful years. Together, they built a family grounded in love and faith. Olen's greatest joy was his family, and he is survived by his devoted wife Suzie, his loving daughters Dru Thomas Quarles, MD, and her husband Robert Quarles, MD, and Holly Thomas, PAC. His legacy continues through his cherished grandchildren, Anabelle, Sam, and Brooks Cullen, and Ashley Rowe-Parks Faulkner, all residing in Charlotte, NC.
Olen was an active and longstanding member of First Baptist Church in Mayfield, KY, and maintained a deep connection to his lifelong home church, Donaldson Creek Baptist Church in Trigg County, KY. His faith was a guiding force in his life, providing strength and comfort to him and his family.
Preceded in death by his parents, Taylor and Myrtle, and siblings Lonnie Douglas, Herscel, Guy, Fred, Thelma King, Ruth Meador, Eunice Sumner, and Lottie Mayche, Olen now joins them in eternal peace.
A service to honor and celebrate Olen's life will be held at Donaldson Creek Baptist Church, with details to be announced. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Billy Graham Evangelical Association, Queen City Honor Flight, or Donaldson Creek Baptist Church, reflecting Olen's enduring dedication to faith, service, and community.
As we remember Olen Ray Thomas, we celebrate a life well-lived, filled with love, kindness, and unwavering devotion. His memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who were privileged to know him. May he rest in peace, surrounded by the grace and love he so richly shared with the world.
