Oten "Sandy" Sanders

Charlotte-Oten “Sandy” Sanders, 86, died Thursday, September 27, 2012 at his residence. A Charlotte native, he was born on October 19, 1925 to the late Wiley Sanders and Mary Leila Jones Sanders. Mr. Sanders retired from Duke Power after 38 years of service and had worked part-time at Hechinger Home Improvement. During World War II, he served in the Army Air Corp. Mr. Sanders was a member of St. Thomas Lutheran Church and enjoyed woodworking, building model airplanes, doing yard work and will be remembered as “Mr. Fix It”. He also enjoyed eating monthly with the Tech High Lunch Bunch.

A funeral service to celebrate his life will be held at 11:00AM, Monday, October 1st at St. Thomas Lutheran Church with Rev. Steven Lorimer officiating. Interment will follow in Charlotte Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 2:00PM to 4:00PM, Sunday, at the funeral home.

Mr. Sanders is survived by his wife of 64 years, Phyllis Zafft Sanders; three daughters, Darla Daugherty (Mike), of Charlotte, Linda Noles, of Stanley, Tamara Williams (Jeff) of Charlotte;

a brother, Clarence Sanders (Linda), of Virginia; six grandchildren, Vanessa Turner (Brian), Kelly Stilwell (Johnny), Casey Noles (Beth), Sandy Luckey (Dustin), Mitchell Williams, Jered Williams (Arianne); four great-grandchildren, Adam Luckey, Ethan Noles, Allie Luckey, Silas Noles and his favorite dogs, Lakota and Cherokee.

Memorials may be made to St. Thomas Lutheran Church, 4013 Shamrock Drive, Charlotte, NC 28215, Hospice and Palliative Care – Charlotte Region, 1420 East 7th Street, Charlotte, NC 28204 or to a charity of the donor’s choice.

The Sanders family would like to thank Dr. Marshall P. McMillan and the caregivers from Hospice, Jackie King, Tahirah Niang and Glaucia Smith for the loving care shown to Mr. Sanders and the family.
