Trey was born on December 30, 1958 in Charlotte, NC to Norma Childers Mace (from Gaffney, SC) and Otis Arnold Mace, Jr (from Hendersonville, NC). The family moved to Chattanooga, TN where Trey graduated from Hixson High School. Trey had many interests which included scuba diving, rappelling, hiking and camping. He was also an avid reader and had a great appreciation for music and the outdoors.
Trey later graduated from Middle Tennessee State University in 1983 with a B.S. degree, majoring in Communications and minoring in English and Psychology. Shortly after graduating Trey married Dru Baggett Martin. They were married for ten years and lived together in Charlotte, NC. They had identical twin daughters, Alison and Danielle, born June 18, 1987 and a son, Stuart, born August 23, 1989.
Later in his life, Trey accepted a position as a Medical Assistant at Neil Dobbins Medical Center in Asheville, NC. Trey always loved the mountain setting as it perfectly aligned with the things that he loved to do. After the passing of his Father, Trey decided to move back to Charlotte so that he could be with his family. Trey decided to enroll in CPCC’s counseling program and received his certification while maintaining a 4.0 GPA for 2 years.
Trey was preceded in death by his sister, Laura Mace who passed December 20, 2009 and, his Father, Otis Arnold Mace Jr. who passed away on April 25th, 2013, after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s disease. He leaves as his legacy three children as well as his stepson: Zane Martin, Danielle Mace Blalock (Christopher), Alison Mace, and Stuart Mace (Melissa). Trey will also be lovingly remembered by his six grandchildren, Jakob, Laila, Nora, Carter, Remington, and Aurora. His family remembers him simply and most importantly as a loving father, son, and grandfather. His selfless, unique, and loving spirit will forever live on in the lives and hearts of many.
