Ovid Kearns Smith

Ovid was a devoted Christian. She retired after 28 years from Bell South Yellow Pages. She was previously an active member at University United Methodist Church, life member of Methodist Women, church Historian, Sew & Sew craft group, greeter, youth counselor and Girl Scout Leader. She also visited shut-ins. Ovid loved her family, traveling with Harry, servicing at various church functions, volunteering and helping others, china painting, crafts and hosting dinner parties.

Ovid is preceded in death by her loving husband of 45 years Harry O. Smith; brother Lyles Kearns; stepson Harry Ken Smith. She is survived by sister Carleen Gilmer of Brunswick, GA’ brother Gilbert Kearns of High Point, NC; daughter Rhonda O. York (Billy) of Charlotte, NC; sons Vernon O’Daniel (Denise) of Raleigh, NC, Scott O’Daniel (Missy) of Charlotte, NC; step daughters Lynda Douglas (Gary) of Orlando, FL and Laura Ashworth of Pisgah Forest, NC; 17 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild.

Funeral Service will take place at University United Methodist Church, 3835 West WT Harris Blvd, Charlotte, NC on Monday, February 19, 2018 at 2:00pm. Interment will take place at Sharon Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Alzheimer’s Association at www.alz.org or University United Methodist Church Children’s Ministry.
