Paul Vincent Cassidy Jr.

Paul Vincent Cassidy, Jr. passed away on January 19, 2023 at his home in Charlotte, N.C. surrounded by his loving family. Paul was born November 6, 1931 in New York City to Angela Meenan Cassidy and Paul Cassidy, Sr. He grew up in Garden City Long Island and graduated from Charminade HS in Mineola, NY, where he was awarded a football scholarship. Paul’s academic career was interrupted by his service as a paratrooper in the United States Army during the Korean War. Paul subsequently received his B.S. degree from Villanova in Business and spent most of his career with IBM in Sales Management. An avid sports enthusiast, Paul enjoyed working with, teaching and coaching youths, including his three daughters, whom he coached in various sports. These qualities of teaching, helping, giving of himself, were evident early in Paul’s life. As a college student Paul worked at the Devereux School for Children, where he provided a kind, gentle and positive image for those in his charge. A devoted family man, Paul is survived by Carol Cassidy, his wife of 66 years; two daughters, Lesley Pollio and Lori Cassidy; grandson, Joseph Pollio and his wife Laura Pollio; and great-grandsons, Joseph and Christopher Pollio. Paul was predeceased by daughter, Lisa Cassidy, and his three siblings: Jane Cassidy Smith, Peter Cassidy and Anne Cassidy. His generosity, good humor, radiant smile and perpetual Irish amiability will be greatly missed. Funeral services will be held Friday, March 3, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Gabriel Catholic Church, 3016 Providence Road, Charlotte, N.C. 28211. The family will receive friends at 1:00 p.m. in the church lobby. The family would like to express their appreciation for the caregivers who assisted Paul during his illness. In lieu of flowers, the family would ask that donations be made in Paul’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association.
