

Peggy, a native Charlottean, passed away on Tuesday, October 25, 2011. She will be remembered as a true Southern lady and a loving wife, mother, sister, and grandmother. She was born on December 5, 1923, the second daughter of the late Harold Dewey Mayhew and Rose Marie Padgett Mayhew. Peggy grew up in Charlotte, graduated from Berryhill High School and married her high school sweetheart, Jimmy Wood. Her husband, James Albert Wood, Jr. preceded her in death in 1981.
Peggy and Jimmy were charter members of Providence United Methodist Church and Carmel Country Club.
Mrs. Wood is survived by her daughter, Rose Marie Sanders and husband, Frank, sons, James Albert Wood, III and Banks Mayhew Wood and wife, Barbara, all of Charlotte. Peggy is also survived by her sister, Iris Pollard of Charlotte; and by her beloved grandchildren, Banks Mayhew Wood, Jr., Anne Wood, and Frank DeCelle Sanders IV. A nephew, Jack Pollard of Richmond, Va. also survives Peggy.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 28, 2011 at Harry & Bryant Company, “Chapel in the Oaks”, 500 Providence Rd., Charlotte, with the Reverend Dr. William Jeffries officiating. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home.
