

Pendleton “Pennie” Fearing Hirst, 73, of Charlotte, NC, passed away on May 16, 2013. She was born on March 30, 1940 in New York City to the late Joseph Lea Fearing and Blanche Kennedy Fearing. She graduated from Parkland High School, Orefield, PA, in 1958, and attended Albright College in Reading, PA.
Pennie devoted her life to her family, and was especially proud of her grandchildren. She retired from Bank of America after 33 years of service.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother, David Fearing, and her half-sister, Grace Lea Williams.
Pennie is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth P. Downing of Tega Cay, SC; daughter Leslie T. Hirst of Pawtucket, RI; son, James M. Hirst of Charlotte; son-in-law, John Michael Downing; daughter-in-law, Kim Hirst; grandchildren, Kate Downing, Rebekah Downing, Joseph Downing, Sean Hirst and Trevor Hirst; and half-brother, Joseph Lea Fearing, Jr.
Pennie loved to travel, Russia being her favorite destination, as well as Scotland, England, France, Austria and Alaska. She loved to play cards, and enjoyed the pool with her cherished neighborhood Troon friends.
The family extends heartfelt appreciation to the staff at the Harris Hospice Unit at Presbyterian Novant Hospital of Charlotte, NC.
A celebration of Pennie’s life will be held at the Village of Troon Clubhouse in Ballantyne from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 19, 2013.
