I was thinking about Dr Downs this morning. My daughter was born on this day 50 years ago, on Labor Day. He also delivered my sister in 1965. He was a great doctor and a very nice man. He kept after me with my first baby about not eating anything white( like flour, sugar etc) I  was so scared of gaining weight that a few days after delivery of my first baby  was at my wedding weight! Back then the fathers stayed in the waiting room and got reports from the delivery room. It was very different from the way it was when my daughter delivered her first baby in 2003 with the father in the room.

As far as I know, Dr Downs, I may not have seen you since you delivered me on May 27, 1969 at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte. Thank you for your care for my mother and me, and from what I gather, you knew Jesus Christ as your Savior.  That's the best news.

Dearest Joan: Watching this video/pictures, brings back so many cherished memories. You two were our closest, loving friends at Lake Norman. You two were the main ones who brought Ray and I to our Lord. I always remember seeing you sitting on the floor with Bibles spread around you and I asked you why you needed more than one! Now we have 12!! We moved quite a way from each other, but don't ever doubt that the love, memories, hugs, smiles, kindnesses and closeness in so many ways, always are with us. We love you and your 4 daughters..and keep you in our prayers. We know with how close you and your girls, grandchildren and family are, that they will be a great comfort to you and keep bringing reminders or the love and fun and closeness you and Posey always had. You are always in our hearts....please come down and visit awhile with us. Love, Joan and Ray (enormous hugs & kisses too)

Dr. Downs was my doctor from l961 until 1982 when we moved away from Charlotte.  He was my doctor for all four of my babies.  He was wonderful and got me through some hard times.  He was such a caring doctor for women during pregnancy.  I am sorry for your loss and know you will treasure the memories.  He was a blessing to me. God bless, Dolores Pender, LaGrange, NC

What awesome comments about Dr. Posey Downs. Bill wanted me to look up the obit. and I encountered the guest book.  I have printed all of it so that Bill and I can read it together.  He was so very proud of his brother and all of his family.  It was so wonderful to see all of you at the memorial celebration of his life.  
I am thankful to have known him the few short years that I have been in the Downs family.
I have a picture of him and Joan and Miriam and Bill and me taken at Pink Beds, the Wells reunion.  I treasure it.

I am very sorry for your loss.Seeing the photos brought back a flood of memories and helped me to remember what a very nice man he was. I have not seen DR. Downs in 25 years but still have a bible that was given to me by Dr. downs and Joan dated December 25th 1978.

Dr. Downs delivered both of my boys. He was the most gentle and sweet man. My favorite doctor ever. My prayers go out to your whole family. Love and may God Bless each of you.

Dr. Downs was the best Dr.I ever had, there will be no other one like him. After losing two babies, he found what the problem was and thanks to him, I finally got my second son.

I'm so sorry for your loss.  I was a patient of his and worked at the hospital with him.  He stole my heart like he did so many others. We will truly miss him.  He always had time for his patients.  He was one in a million.  With heartfelt sympathy.

Dear Joan and girls,I'm very saddened to hear of the passing of Dr. Downs.I worked for him for 10 years and in retrospect it was the best job I ever had.He was as kind ,and loving as an employer as he was with his family and patients.I have always respected him and will always have very fond memories of him.Please find peace in knowing he was a wonderful person.

Thank you all for your kind words about our father. You have no idea how much it has helped us through this. Daddy was the kindest,strongest, gentlest, and most generous man I will ever know. I was blessed beyond measure to be his daughter. He loved each one of his girls so much, never showing favoritism. We each held our own special place in his heart. He loved our mother in a way that most people think only happens in the movies. He was the same way at home, always...never raising his voice, generous, kind,it was not a facade for the public.He was such a practical joker too. He had the greatest sense of humor. Jan - I just read your post on Facebook about your Dad. Please share my condolences with your Mom, Susan, and your other sisters Lou Ann and Laurene who I do not know. God bless you in your grief. During pregnancy I felt that I never worried because I knew I was in good hands. He was the best.

I met the doctor one time in 1978 at his home when he answered the front door to see me with my long hair coming to see Susan. He eyeballed me hard, said something funny like "Susan huh?" and actually let me in to wait. He was very kind knowing how uncomfortable I was in those days. Even back then I thought watching the ending dinner hour --- what a terrific family lives here. A father can do that I have come to learn. God of Abraham be with all of you still.

Uncle Posey was so wonderful!  I always looked up to him with so much respect while at the same time remember laughing so much with him. When you were around Uncle Posey you were bound to have a great time!  I am truly blessed to have grown up having him in our family's life.  I will continue to pray for Aunt Joan, all my cousins and the rest of the family.

Best OB/GYN Doctor I have ever had the pleasure of knowing.  He delivered me and he treated three generations of my family (grandmother, mother, me). I just cried when he announced his retirement and my heart goes out to the family.  Heaven has another angel.

Angie and I wish to express our deepest condolences to Joan, his daughters and all of his family. I first came to know him during our time in training at Georgia Baptist Hospital in Atlanta then through out our separate practices in Charlotte. He was an excellent Physician and a real Christian Gentelman. He was kind and well liked by all. My prayer is that the Peace of our Lord will descend upon and give support to the Family during these difficult times. It was my privilege having him as a friend.

Lynn and I are grateful for the visits we made during the past two years. Posey had a way of spreading joy and happiness just being in his presence. Our prayers are with you, Joan and your  loving family.

Only God knows the true extent of how much Dr. Downs was loved by so many because of the care he gave.  Dr. Downs truly cared about women who were unable to conceive.  Because of his medical intervention, I have 3 children. I am so thankful to him and for what he meant to our family.

The best obgn doctor I have ever had. He delivered my daughter 41 years ago. Very sweet and kind. I was heart broken when he retired, I have never found a doctor to compare to him My prayers are with the family.

Some of my happiest years was working  with Dr. Posey and even after retirement we continued to E-Mail one another. I will miss him.
