Richard Arlen Osborne

Richard Arlen Osborne of Charlotte, 73, passed away on August 10, 2014 after a brief battle with cancer. He was born on December 26, 1940 to Marcus Mack Osborne and Jessie May Hepler Osborne. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 31 years Sarah Manning Osborne and sister, Mary Elizabeth Osborne.

Richard was a graduate of Central High School’s class of 1959. He then went on to work for the City of Charlotte Street Maintenance Department where he retired after more than 30 years of service. He was very proud of his years at the City and after retirement missed his City of Charlotte friends and talked of them often.

Richard was an avid NASCAR fan. His office at the City was decorated with NASCAR and Dale Earnhardt, Sr. memorabilia. Later in life he was a Jimmie Johnson and Earnhardt, Jr. fan. The last race he watched was Dale, Jr. win the Pocono race on Sunday, August 3, 2014.

Richard is survived by his daughter Cindy Osborne Mason and son in law Russell Mason, sister Pat Osborne Hines (Gary) and niece, Gayle Cheek.

A service to celebrate Richard’s life will be held at 3:00 PM Wednesday, August 13, 2014 with a visitation one hour prior to the funeral hour at McEwen Funeral Service’s Charlotte Chapel, 5716 Monroe Road, Charlotte. Burial will follow in Sharon Memorial Park’s Garden of Love.
