Robert was born on May 16, 1966, in Kernersville, NC, to Kermit and Emma Joyce Craver Bailey. Robert was a member of the 1984 Grimsley Whirlies class. He loved his time there and remained close to many of his classmates. Robert attended High Point University after a long career with Piedmont/Us Airways/American Airlines as an aircraft mechanic. He loved his airplanes and most things mechanical.
Robert was later employed with Siemens Energy since 2012. He worked for several divisions and was recently promoted to a Site Installation Engineer. He traveled extensively with his job in the US as well as to Saudi Arabia and South Korea. He truly loved his work and was very excited about his new role.
Robert and Susan married in January 1999 and recently celebrated their 27th wedding anniversary. Bob and Susan often traveled the world, having finished a great trip to Italy and Barcelona this past summer. They enjoyed their time in Charlotte with friends as well as their vacation homes in Fripp Island, SC and Carolina Beach. Bob loved to entertain his family and friends, hosting 19 pig pickings over the years and often hosting “steak night at the Baileys” on Saturdays. Bob and Susan met through their great friends Cindy and Heath McCall and one of their first dates was one of Bob’s legendary Super Bowl Parties, which became a tradition over the years.
Bob loved cooking, loved his beloved band Rush and loved helping other people. If you were sick, had a baby, or in general need of a pick me up, Bob was there with bar beque or homemade chicken pot pie.
Bob also loved animals. He had three dachshunds over the years; his current rescue is Miss Fin and she is a great comfort to Susan during these hard times.
Bob is survived by his wife Susan Goddard Bailey; sister Emma McAdams (Page) of Durham and their children, Emily McAdams (Brian), Leslie Brouwer (Kirk) and Sarah Smith (Stuart), Joseph Edmundson (Ashley), James Edmundson, Benjamin Malkin, Lindsay Malkin, as well many great nieces and great nephews.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, February 7th, 2026 2:00 at McEwen Funeral home located at 10500 Park Road, Pineville NC. It will be followed by “Bob’s Last Super Bowl Party” at Blackfin, 14825 Ballantyne Village Way, Charlotte NC 28277 3:30- 5:30.
