

Robert James Funderburk, 72, died Friday, July 6, 2012 at Big Elm Rehabilitation & Living Center in Kannapolis. Mr. Funderburk was born on July 13, 1939 in Monroe to the late Mark S. Funderburk, Sr. and Dora Pauline Hamrick Funderburk. He was a member of Gethsemane Baptist Church and had retired from Terminal Trucking as a driver.
Mr. Funderburk was a NASCAR fan and enjoyed go-kart racing, playing solitaire, Nintendo and horseshoes. He also enjoyed Farmville on Facebook.
A funeral to celebrate his life will be held at 11:00AM, Tuesday, July 10th at The Derita Chapel of McEwen Funeral Service, 6300 Mallard Creek Road, with the Rev. Bobby Talent officiating.
Interment with military honors will follow in Gethsemane Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7:00PM to 9:00PM Monday evening.
Mr. Funderburk is survived by a daughter, Cindy M. Hadden and husband Jimmie, of Salisbury; a sister, Dora Jean Funderburk Terry, of Charlotte; a brother, Vann Funderburk, of Tampa, FL; five grandchildren, Karen Burton, of Kannapolis; Krystal Keller, of Landis; Mark Hadden, of Mooresville; Bryan Hadden, of Salisbury; Tony Hadden, of Rock Hill, SC and five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his dogs, Dora and Brownie.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Funderburk was preceded in death by his wife Linda M. Funderburk and a brother, Mark S. Funderburk, Jr.
