

Robert Warren Laughton, 73, of Charlotte and Naples, Florida, lost his courageous battle with cancer on May 1, 2016 surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his sons, Greg (Kelley Laughton) and Jeff (Karen Laughton); his brother, Tom (Sharyn Laughton); and his five grandchildren, Reid, Cole, Brady, Avery, and Peyton. He was predeceased by his wife of 46 years, Patricia Laughton; his brother, Doug (Ellen Laughton); his mother, Elizabeth Wilbur; and his father, Richard Laughton.
Robert was born on November 7, 1942 in Norwalk, Connecticut. He attended the Vermont Academy High School, where he excelled at hockey, track, and football. He graduated with a Bachelor’s of Business Administration from Bucknell University, where he was a three-time football letterman, led the football team in rushing yards in 1963 and 1964 and was part of the Bucknell Football Century Club. He married Patricia Laughton on July 13, 1968.
Robert dedicated himself to Mobil Oil Corporation for approximately 30 years, quickly rising through the ranks until retiring in 1996 as President of Mobil’s Alaskan Pipeline. During retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his wife, two sons, and their families.
A private Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 11, 2016 at Providence Country Club in Charlotte, NC and his final resting place will be with his wife at Hodges Funeral Home Columbarium in Naples, FL.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be sent to the Isabella Santos Foundation at 9935-D Rea Road Unit 275, Charlotte, NC 28277 (donations benefit Neuroblastoma pediatric cancer research, the Ronald McDonald House, Make a Wish Foundation, as well as the Levine Children’s Hospital of Charlotte).
