

Allen Pittman, age 50, of Charlotte, NC, died unexpectedly on April 26, 2012. He was born on October 15, 1961 in Mecklenburg County, the son of Elizabeth “Lib” Grainger Pittman, and the late Robert Alexander Pittman; and beloved brother of the late Kimberly Pittman Clemons. Allen graduated from South Florence High School in Florence, SC and from Clemson University with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering.
Mr. Pittman was Vice-President of LiquiCel with Membrana/Celgard, recently reaching thirty years of service. He began his career with Hoechst Celanese as a co-op student, alternating semesters in college and at work. He enjoyed the varied applications of technology in his field of work, and appreciated the world view gained through his travels. Loyalty, responsibility and a gentle spirit were hallmarks of his character. Allen was always a caring and giving son, husband, father and friend to so many who felt honored to call him friend.
Allen was a member of Providence Baptist Church where he had served on the Finance committee, taught children’s Sunday School, and volunteered with Room in the Inn ministry serving the homeless. As a volunteer at his sons’ elementary school, he enjoyed sharing his knowledge of science and math serving as a Science Olympiad coach.
Allen loved spending time outdoors, and especially cherished time spent with his loving family and friends. His favorite times included hitting fly balls for practice, watching his sons play basketball and baseball, challenging them to a game of chess and enjoying the lake or beach. His two fine sons were truly Allen’s pride and joy.
Along with his mother, he is survived by his wife of 17 years, Jamie Stoker Pittman; and sons, Robert Price Pittman and John Stoker Pittman, all of Charlotte; brother-in-law, Jim Stoker and his wife Eleanor of Easley, SC; niece, Gracie Mac Stoker and nephew, Jay Stoker of Easley, SC; and nephews, Corbin, Nathan and Nicholas Clemons of Green Sea, NC.
The visitation will be held from 7 until 9 p.m. on Monday evening, April 30, 2012 at Harry & Bryant Company, 500 Providence Rd., Charlotte. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, May 1st at Providence Baptist Church with the Reverend Dr. R. Alton Cadenhead officiating. Interment will be private.
