

Roger served his country in the US Army in Korea. Mr. Oates worked as Sales Manager for Merita Bakery and was an avid golfer. He was loved by family and friends alike and will be greatly missed.
Mr. Oates was born in Charlotte to the late Bill and Gladys Oates. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 59 years Charlene Oates, his brothers Paul Oates and Walter Oates and a sister Sarah O Pennington.
Roger is survived by two brothers, Troy Oates of Fayetteville and Gene Oates of Holden Beach and a sister Kay Walker of Fort Myers, Florida. Survivors include daughters Cindy (John) Duncan of Lincolnton, Kim Oates of Charlotte and son Rocky Oates also of Charlotte. There are 3 grandchildren Chris (Tracy) Duncan, Lori Still and Megan Clark of Lincolnton. There are also 6 great grandchildren, Noah (Tiffany) Wright, Chloe Wright, Evelynne, Jeffrey and Lincoln Duncan and Jackson Clark and one great, great grandchild Liam Wright.
A funeral service will be held at Forest Lawn West Funeral Home in the Paul Helton Chapel on Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at 2 pm. Burial will follow immediately there after. The Rev. John W. Duncan Jr. will preside. The family will receive friends on Monday, November 20th from 6-8 pm at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Hospice or the Alzheimer's Association (in honor of Troy Oates).
