He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Doris; his parents, Margaret and Pete Lawing; his sister, Clare Lawing; and two of his children, Steve and Sharon.
He is survived by his children, Ron (Susan), Gary, Sandra (Jay), Sonia (Mike), and Christy (James); as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren who cherished him.
A proud United States Navy veteran, he served his country honorably. Known for always “Cutting Up,” he had a gift for making people laugh and loved to have a good time. He loved his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, had a tremendous love for animals, and treasured time at the beach and with his family.
A service to honor his life will be held on Wednesday December 3, 2025, 11:00 am in the chapel of McEwen Funerals and Cremations at Forest Lawn West, 4601 Freedom Drive, Charlotte, NC. Visitation 10:00 am until the time of service in the funeral home chapel. Burial in Forest Lawn West Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to gather, share memories, and celebrate his life.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice of Cabarrus County, who provided exceptional care, loving him and the family like one of their own.
