

Mrs. Chambers, 82, of Charlotte, NC, passed away on August 30, 2012 at Lake Park Nursing Home. She was born on May 2, 1930 in Rowan County, a daughter of the late Hallie Phillips Poteat and Hubert Lee Poteat.
Mrs. Chambers graduated from JW Cannon High School in 1948 and proceeded into nurses training at Rowan School of Nursing. She graduated as a registered nurse in 1951. Mrs. Chambers married the love of her life in 1952, John Ray Chambers. They briefly lived in Texas and Georgia, as Mr. Chambers served in the U.S. Army. They made their home in Charlotte, NC, where Ruby worked for Carolinas Medical Center and CMC Mental Health. Together they had two daughters, Rebecca Chambers Whittington and Mary Chambers Troutman.
Ruby was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter, sister and aunt. She always had something to give everyone that was thoughtful, according to their interests. If you needed her, she would be there, no matter the obstacles. She will be greatly missed, and her memory will be cherished forever.
Besides her parents, Mrs. Chambers was preceded in death by her husband, John Ray Chambers; daughter, Mary Chambers Troutman; and nephew, Dennis Lee Starnes.
Mrs. Chambers is survived by her daughter, Rebecca Chambers Whittington (David); sisters, Earline Poteat Snipes, and Louise Poteat Starnes (B.L.); grandchildren, John Wilson Hardaway, Stephanie Lindsay (Jeffrey), Austin Cline, Chelsea Bredow (Michael), Cory Troutman, and Hannah Whittington; niece, Amy Gentle (Eric); nephew, Randy Snipes; and six great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held at 1 o’clock on Saturday, September 8, 2012 in the Chapel of Harry & Bryant Company, 500 Providence Rd., Charlotte, with the Rev. Jay Leach officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12-12:45 p.m. prior to the service.
