Mrs. Ruth Ransom Beeson, age 103, passed away Monday, February 6, 2017 at Brookdale South Park. Ruth was born in Mount Bethel, PA on November 13, 1913 to the late Henry Morgan Ransom and Carolyn Bayr Ransom.
Mrs. Beeson had worked for Duke Power for six years before marrying her beloved husband, Clarence E. Beeson, Sr. They settled in the Myers Park Area of Charlotte and raised their two children, Carolyn and Clarence E. Beeson, Jr.
Ruth was a member of Myers Park United Methodist Church since 1945, and served as President of the Ruth Fisher Sunday School Class in 1969. She loved her church and was known to be very active there. Mrs. Beeson was also a Girl Scout leader for troop 49 from 1957 to 1967 at Myers Park United Methodist Church. These were special years for Ruth, and she loved every minute of them.
Most of the girls in troop 49 lived in Myers Park and attended Myers Park High School. The group was diverse with many different interests. These women forged a close bond and have maintained it for 55 years. When Ruth turned 100 in November 2013, the girls celebrated with a luncheon in one of their homes and presented Ruth with a Girl Scout 100th anniversary scarf and a commemorative plate.
Ruth also loved to write poetry, loved to play golf, and then croquet when she could no longer play golf. She also was an avid bridge player. Mrs. Beeson and her husband were members of Myers Park Country Club and Grandfather Golf and Country Club.
Ruth is survived by her two children, daughter, Carolyn Ruth Beeson, of Columbus, NC and son, Clarence E. Beeson Jr. and daughter-in-law, Mary Knepp of Sky Valley, GA. Also surviving is one granddaughter, Carrie K. Beeson and nephew, Richard M. Ransom and family of Fresno, CA.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial gifts be given to Ruth’s favorite charity, The Children’s Hope Alliance of Barium Springs, NC (formerly Grandfather Home For Children)(www.childrenshopealliance.org).
A memorial service to celebrate Mrs. Beeson’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 18, 2017 in Harry & Bryant’s “Chapel in the Oaks”, 500 Providence Road, Charlotte. A visitation and reception will follow the service.
