Ruth Mills Cobb

Charlotte - Ruth Mills Cobb, 73, of Charlotte, died peacefully at home on April 22, 2015 after a courageous battle with cancer. Ruth was born on November 23, 1941 in Greenville, SC, daughter of Roger Moore Mills and Ruth O'Kelley Mills.

She graduated from St. Mary's Junior College in Raleigh, NC and was a loving and devoted wife of the late James Tillman Cobb.

Ruth’s life was centered on serving and giving to others. She was an Elder at Covenant Presbyterian Church, enjoyed many summer “SMART” trips, and worked as Director of Lay Ministry at the Church for 10 years. She helped form the Council for Children and Volunteer Action Committee and was a Sustainer member of the Junior League of Charlotte.

Ruth had a love for adventure. Jeep rides and hikes on trails in and around Cedar Mountain, driving her own RV with good friends in New Zealand and Australia, travelling throughout the great west, packing out on horseback in the Wind River Range in Wyoming and skiing in Colorado.

Ruth is survived by her son, James Tillman Cobb, Jr. and his wife Amy Rahn Cobb of Denver, CO; her son, Roger Moore Mills Cobb and his wife Virginia Carson Cobb; and her daughter, Mills Cobb Smith and her husband David Welsh Smith of Charlotte. She is also survived by her wonderful grandchildren whom she adored, James Tillman Cobb, III, Margaret Elizabeth Cobb, Ann Mills Cobb, Caroline Carson Cobb, Parker Granville Smith and Ashley Louisa Smith; a sister, Mary Ella Northrop and her husband Theodore McGeachy Northrop, Jr. of Mobile, AL; and sister-in-law, Elizabeth Sullivan Cobb of Birmingham, AL.

A memorial service will be held at 2 pm on Monday, April 27th at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 1000 East Morehead Street, Charlotte, NC. The family will receive friends following the service in the Church Fellowship Hall. Interment will be private for the family.
