Mrs. Ruth Cox Spence

Ruth Cox Spence, beloved mother, grandmother, and aunt died November 23, 2011 at home surrounded by her family. Ruth was born in Newton Grove, North Carolina, on May 28, 1919, to parents, Lindley and Mabel Cox. She married O.J. Spence and had two sons and a daughter. Ruth's life was devoted to her family and for 58 years she has been the light of her daughter Ann's life.

A graveside service will be held 1:00 PM Sunday, November 27, 2011 at Sharon Memorial Park, 5716 Monroe Road, Charlotte, NC 28212. A reception and visitation will be held following the service at McEwen Funeral Service, located on the grounds of Sharon Memorial Park.

Ruth is survived by her son, Gary Bingham Spence, and wife, Patricia, of Parker, Colorado, her daughter, Ruth Ann Spence, of Charlotte and her daughter-in-law, Kitty Spence, of Charlotte. She has three grandsons, Ben, Daniel, and Michael and two granddaughters, Abby and Jenny.

She was preceded in death by husband, O.J. Spence, her dear son, Ron Spence, and brothers, Gordon Cox, Merlin Cox, Bernice Cox, Eldridge Cox, and sisters, Cecil Bagwell, Juanita Warren, and Mary Young. Ruth has a host of nieces and nephews, who have surrounded her with love and caring in her final days, for which her family is so grateful.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care, Charlotte Region, 1420 E. Seventh Street, Charlotte, N.C. 28204.

The family would like to express their deepest appreciation to all of the Charlotte Hospice Team who so lovingly and compassionately cared for Ruth and to Dr. Michael Richardson for years of care and kindness. A heartfelt appreciation is extended to the Simpson House Team who has so lovingly cared for her daughter, Ruth Ann, for many many years.
