Known most of her life as “Toogie” a name given by her younger brother, Bob. Her parents were Thomas Clayton and Ruth Allen McNeil.
Toogie and her husband Thomas (Tom) Marshall Stewart, Sr. met at Central High School in Charlotte NC. Tom was a guest of her brothers at their home. He saw Toogie asleep on the couch and decided to kiss her! And what a kiss it must have been. They married on May 15th 1944 during Tom’s deployment in the Navy during WW2. They were married for 58 years until Tom’s death in 2002.
A homemaker for most of her life, her time was spent in the care and nurturing of her three surviving children; Thomas “Marshall” Stewart, Jr., wife Kim Fort Mill SC, David “Michael” Stewart, wife Carolyn, Black Mountain NC and Ruth Lynn Stewart Lightner, husband Dan, Woodstock GA.
She is survived by her grandchildren; Meredith Worley, Paige Phillips, Melissa Carmichael, “David” Michael Stewart, Lorrie Campbell, Wesley Collins, Jessica LaPrade, Lauren Upton, Andrea Howard and Brooke Hassell, 28 great-grandchildren and 10 nieces and nephews.
She was lovingly devoted to her family and husband Tom. She impacted us all in a very special way and will be sorely missed until we meet again for eternity.
A graveside service will be held at Sharon Memorial Park at 2pm on Saturday November 6, 2021.
