

Mr. Sain was born in Lincoln County North Carolina. His Mother was Eula Kate Warlick Sain and his Father was Ernest Zero Sain. He graduated from Union HS in Vale NC and went to watch making school in Spencer NC. He was a Veteran of the Korean War, stationed in Tripoli, North Africa (Libya). He met and married his wife, Norma Jean Whitaker, in Wichita KS. Upon being honorably discharged from the Air Force they moved to Charlotte NC where they raised two sons, John Paul and Charles Ernest Sain. He worked at Sears for 30+ years.
Sonny had a brilliant mechanical mind and enjoyed restoring Model As, Whizzer motor bikes and Cushman scooters. He was a life long member of the Hornets Nest Region of the Antique Automobile Club and the Queen City Model A Club. He enjoyed showing his cars and scooters and was on the AACA National Awards Committee. But, most of all he enjoyed the fellowship of old and new friends at the Car Shows. He was always ready and willing to help others any way he could. He was a faithful yearly attendee of the Hershey Region AACA Car Show.
Sonny is survived by his son, John (wife Judy), granddaughter Dr Sunny Sain Owen (husband Andrew), two sisters (Barbara Jean Houser and Katherine Ernestine DiBernardo), niece Andrae Beam, and nephews (Matthew Beam, Tyson DiBernado, and Jamie Houser).
A memorial gathering will be held 2:00pm, Tuesday, August 13 in the chapel at Wilson Funeral and Cremation Service, 5301 Albemarle Rd., Charlotte, NC.
