Sandra Christensen, a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of warmth, kindness, and love. Born on June 24, 1946, in Pleasantville, Iowa, Sandra grew up in a close-knit community that shaped her compassionate spirit.
Sandra's formative years were spent in Cedar Falls, where she attended Cedar Falls High School, graduating in 1964. Her passion for helping others led her to pursue a career in nursing, and she proudly graduated from the Moline Public School of Nursing in 1967.
On February 3, 1968, Sandra married the love of her life, Duane Harlan Christensen. Together, they embarked on a journey filled with love and adventure. The couple embraced the joys of young married life in the 1970s and started a family, welcoming their three children: Bernard, Andrew, and Elizabeth, beginning in 1976.
The 1980s and 1990s were vibrant years for Sandra, as she devoted herself to nurturing Andrew and Elizabeth through their school years. These decades were marked by laughter, love, and countless cherished memories, which Sandra often remembered as the happiest years of her life.
In 1993, the Christensen family moved to Altoona, where Sandra and Duane eventually retired. They cherished the visits from their growing family, and Sandra especially loved spending time with her eldest grandson, Graham. Her heart was full as she watched her family expand and thrive.
As her health needs changed, Sandra moved to Charlotte, NC, to live with her daughter Elizabeth. There, she found joy in watching her grandsons, Arlo and Milo, play soccer, swim, and grow, all while enjoying the loving embrace of family life. Despite her struggle with Alzheimer's, Sandra remained sweet and pleasant, her characteristic sarcastic sense of humor shining through even in her illness.
Sandra will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her warmth, kindness, and infectious laughter left an indelible mark on everyone she encountered. Her family will forever cherish the memories of her unwavering love and the joy she brought into their lives.
Sandra's spirit will live on in the hearts of her children, Andrew and Elizabeth; her beloved grandchildren; and all those who were fortunate enough to know her.
Sandra leaves a legacy of humor, service, and kindness.
