Sarah Gaylene Horner, 84, of Charlotte, North Carolina, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and devotion to family. Born on July 29, 1941, she lived a life rooted in simple joys and deep connections.
Sarah found great happiness in tending to her garden and watching the birds that gathered nearby — especially the bright yellow goldfinches she adored. She cherished traveling to the beach, where she could relax with a good book on the porch and listen to the rhythm of the waves. More than anything, she treasured time spent with her grandchildren, who were the light of her life.
A dedicated member of the Women’s Auxiliary at Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2423, Sarah gave her time generously in service to veterans and her community. Her compassion and willingness to help others reflected her generous spirit.
She was preceded in death by her father, James Campbell; her mother, Laurine Campbell; and her brothers, Jack Campbell and Jim Campbell.
Sarah is survived by her loving children, Christopher Horner (Amy) and Heather O’Connor (Kevin); her beloved grandchildren, Emma, Logan, and Brady; her sister, Ann Neely; and sister-in-law, Dee Campbell. She also leaves behind extended family and dear friends who will miss her deeply.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by McEwen Funeral Home - Pineville. Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., followed by a memorial service at 12:00 p.m.
Sarah’s faith was a quiet but steady foundation in her life. She trusted in God’s grace and found comfort in His promises. While her family grieves her loss, they rejoice in the assurance that she is at peace, reunited with loved ones who have gone before her, and resting in the presence of her Lord and Savior. Her love will continue to guide her family, and her light will shine on in their hearts forever.
