

Slade Eugene Joyner, 80, passed away peacefully in his sleep on January 8, 2016 at the Sardis Oaks Nursing Home. Slade was born in Savannah, GA on October 8, 1935 and was the son of the late P. L. and Irene Cummins Joyner. He is predeceased by his only sister, Jacqueline Joyner Harrison.
Slade is survived by his wife of 56 years, Nancy Davis “Kitty” Joyner; Son, Slade Jefferson Joyner and wife Stephanie East Joyner of Monroe; Daughter Joy Anne Joyner Hall and husband Thomas Edward Hall of Juneau, Alaska; Grandsons Slade Michael Joyner and wife Rebecca Joyner Joyner; Jared Seth Joyner; Levi Nathaniel Joyner; and, Conner Thomas Hall. His Granddaughter, Lacey Elizabeth Joyner predeceases him. Also left to cherish his memory are nieces Jill Harrison Cox of Gladstone, MO, Lynne Davis Dallin and nephew Paul Jefferson Davis of Raleigh, NC.
Slade was an avid fan of all sports. He followed UNC-CH in both basketball and football and loved the Carolina Panthers. He experienced a number of professional careers during his lifetime including banking, sales, and once held ownership of a business office cleaning company. In 1975 he was employed in Saudi Arabia building a large and modern medical complex. He was overseas for 5 years and toured the world during that time. He retired as a rural mail carrier for the US Postal Service in 2005. One of his favorite jobs was transporting and delivering vehicles for a local Cadillac dealership in Charlotte.
Slade made many friends. He graduated from Central High School in 1953. The class members continues to meet for lunch monthly and Slade was always present.
We have been blessed by his legacy. We have fond memories of his life, love and faithfulness in his duty to God, family and friends.
The Family invites you to come and celebrate Slade’s life on Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at 5:00 pm in the McEwen Chapel at Sharon Memorial Park, 5716 Monroe Road, Charlotte, NC. Visitation and reception will follow until 7:00 pm. Please be prepared to share memories and good times.
