He was a 1953 graduate of Harding High School where he was a part of two football state championships and has remained an active alumnus. The family would like to give special thanks to Novant Health Hospice for their excellent and loving care of Gene. In lieu of flowers, memorials gifts can be made to Durham Memorial Baptist Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Forest Lawn West Funeral & Cremation Service.
