June 26, 1970 - October 1, 2015
Susan was so strong and independent she waged an eight year fight against breast cancer with an unrelenting focus and determination. “She had an attitude of, ‘If there’s pain, I can take it,’” says her dad.
There was.
And she did.
And it’s because of people like Susan that treatments have helped save other lives.
Susan’s parents - Tommy and Pat George – moved 16 times while Susan and her sister, Lynn George Marshall, were growing up.
Lynn married Joe Marshall and the family agrees their daughter, Megan Lynn Marshall, is so very much like her Aunt Susan. Megan says her Aunt was “always on trend” and may have owned just a single pair of boots that were not high heels.
She loved styling and hanging out with her girlfriends. Rarely without a smile, she loved to laugh and she loved watching scary movies.
And how she loved to dance! Weddings, a nightclub – if there was dance floor, she was on it!
Susan worked 16 years with her mom and sister at Keller Williams in Charlotte. On “chemo days” Lynn would put flowers on her doorstep.
The first time she beat the cancer, she ran blisters into her feet at the Race for the Cure. It was one year after her diagnosis.
After moving to Atlanta, she decided to sell life and long term care insurance because she believed it was so important and it could help people. She could never get it herself because of her cancer history.
When the cancer returned, she was in town for a family celebration, so she didn’t tell them. She didn’t want to make them sad.
That was Susan.
She was strong - for everyone else.
A celebration of Susan’s life will be held Saturday, October 10th at 2:00 p.m. at South Mecklenburg Presbyterian Church, 8601 Bryant Farms Road. Following the service there will be a balloon lift off in honor of all breast cancer patients with a celebration party to follow in Mecklenburg Hall. All are invited to join the family in this celebration. Wear some pink if possible.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Levine & Dickson Hospice House at Southminster or KW Cares – Ballantyne Area
