

Born in Asheville, North Carolina, and raised in Charlotte, Susan graduated from Garinger High School before going on to become a registered nurse. She devoted much of her career to caring for others—first at Presbyterian Hospital and later at the detox center on Billingsley Road. Her life’s work was helping people, both professionally and personally.
Susan had a rare and beautiful gift for empathy. She was a mentor, confidante, and best friend to many. Her warmth, kindness, and ability to listen without judgment left a lasting impact on everyone who knew her. She helped countless people find hope and healing.
She found joy in the simple things—especially time spent at the beach, where she felt most at peace.
Susan is survived by her children, Traci Tucker and Kevin Tucker; her granddaughter, Courtnie Bell; her brother, Jim Courtney; and her cousin, Michelle Bamford. She was preceded in death by her parents, James Hamilton Courtney and Helen Nail Courtney, as well as her favorite cousins Linda and Paul Bamford.
A Memorial Service to celebrate Susan’s life will be held on Saturday, August 2nd at 11:00 a.m. at McEwen Funeral Home on Monroe Road in Charlotte.
Susan’s legacy of compassion and service lives on in the many lives she touched. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
