Sybil O. Eccleston

Sybil was the youngest of nine children born to Andy and Callie Owens. She always spoke about being the baby in the family and the advantages of it. She didn’t have as many chores as her siblings, and they would often help finish hers.

Sybil started her career in the 1960’s at Southern Bell as a telephone operator. Many years later, AT&T acquired Southern Bell, and she retired with them. She started another career with Carolinas Medical Center before officially retiring in 2001.

Sybil and Ernie retired to Kure Beach, NC, and enjoyed their retirement although there was rarely a summer they spent alone. They always welcomed their friends and family into their home.

Sybil loved doing for others. She was the matron of our family and always provided whether it be love, support, or a warm meal. There is a spot reserved in all of our hearts for Sybil.

Those left to honor Sybil’s memory include her four daughters, Teresa Suga, Terry (Alan) Joyner, Sherry (Tom) Adams, Debbie (Mickey) Anderson along with ten grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and friends who will miss her dearly.

Funeral Service 11:00 AM, Tuesday, August 15, 2023 at Forest Lawn West Funeral & Cremation Service, 4601 Freedom Drive, Charlotte, NC. Burial in Forest Lawn West Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family ask that memorials be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
