

Monday morning, December 7, 2015. Mrs. Plyler was born in Greenville, SC, June 13, 1936. She was
the baby of eight children of the late James Talmadge Reese and Lona Daniel Reese. In addition to
her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Douglas Walter Plyler, who passed away
August 22, 2015. Also preceding her were her precious brothers and sisters, Grace Bridges,
Margaret Penland, Helen Case, Cecile Helms, Doris Bess, Jimmy Reese, and L.C. Reese, whom she
loved dearly.
Sylvia met the love of her life on a blind date, and they were married 57 years on March 1, 2015.
She graduated from "Old Central High School" now known as Central Piedmont Community College.
Sylvia started work at Met Life straight out of high school as a temporary secretary for summer
vacations; they liked her so much they made a position for her. She excelled in all she did for the
company and retired as the Branch Manager after 42 years.
Sylvia loved her Lord, and strived to be with Him one day. She was a selfless person always putting
others before herself. She was a member of Durham Memorial Baptist Church for 37 years. She
was a member of the Joy Sunday School Class. She served her church in numerous ways
over the years and always enjoyed it. She was a true and gracious giver.
Surviving to cherish her memory and love is her daughter Rhonda (Jimmy) Keistler of Belmont, NC,
two granddaughters, Jaime (Charles) McSwain of Gastonia, NCand Casey (Alex) Morris of Gastonia,
NC. And her great granddaughter Addison (Addie) Reese McSwain. Also surviving are sisters-in-law,
Frances Plyler of Charlotte, and Audrey Plyler of San Antonio, TX, and numerous nieces and
nephews.
Visitation will be Wednesday, December 9th from 6pm to8pm at Forest Lawn West.
Funeral service will be held in the Paul Helton Chapel on Thursday, December 10th at 11am with
Rev. Gene Boatwright officiating. Interment will be in Forest Lawn West Cemetery.
