

It is with heavy hearts and profound respect that we announce the passing of Tammy Short Thacker, a beloved mother, daughter, sister, and friend. Tammy departed this world on March 28, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and resilience.
Tammy was born on July 3, 1958, in the vibrant city of Charlotte, North Carolina, to Billy Dale Short and Sarah Wilson Short. From an early age, Tammy exhibited an artistic flair and a zest for life that would define her journey. She graduated from Olympic High School on June 9, 1976, with a Graphic Arts award, highlighting her exceptional talents in all branches of graphic arts. She further honed her skills at Central Piedmont Community College in Charlotte, completing two years of graphic arts education.
Tammy's life was enriched by her membership at Calvary Methodist Church, later transferring to Aldersgate United Methodist Church, where she found a nurturing community that mirrored her generous spirit and unwavering faith.
An artist at heart, Tammy found solace and joy in painting, particularly seascapes that captured the beauty and tranquility of the ocean. Her artistic journey was paralleled by her passion for the game of poker, in which she was known as an exceptional player, often outplaying even the best of her companions.
Tammy's life was marked by her incredible strength and dedication as a parent. She embraced the role of both mother and father to her children, Michael Alan and Kevin Daniel Crum and Lee Fox Thacker, demonstrating resilience and unconditional love through life's challenges. Her legacy is beautifully carried forward by her children and her cherished grandchildren, Makenzie, Skylyn, Starlyn, and Luke Thacker.
Tammy is survived by her loving mother, Sarah Wilson Short, and her devoted brother, Terry Dale Short. She leaves behind a family that adored her, including Aunt Jeannie and Uncle Greg Smith, niece Melinda Solaka, nephew Bill Solaka, Aunt Carolyn Short, Aunt Nancy Short and cousin/best friend Lynn Cook. Cousin/best friend Libby Watts, who was her caregiver throughout Tammy’s three-year illness.
Tammy was predeceased by her beloved son, Michael Alan Crum, her father, Billy Dale Short, and her grandparents, Doyle Edward Short and Lelia Agee Short, Clifford E. Wilson and Sarah Brackett Wilson. She joins in peace her family members Uncles Ronald, Raymond, and Tony Short, Nathan (Joyce), Raymond (Julia), Cliff (Maxine), John Wilson (Maxine), and numerous cousins.
Friendly, fun-loving, and kind, Tammy was a beacon of light to all who knew her. Her warmth and compassion touched many lives, and she will be dearly missed by her family, friends, and all those fortunate enough to have crossed her path.

While no services are scheduled at this time, the family will have a private service in the mountains of North Carolina according to Tammy’s wishes.
