Thalia Mason, 99, passed away Wednesday, March 24, 2021 at her home at Brookdale Carriage Club in Charlotte, NC with her daughter, Thalia Morris; grand dog, Stella Kate; and caring hospice nurse by her side.
A native of Greer, SC, she was born January 16, 1922 to Ben P. and Della Howe Edwards. She was preceded in death by brothers, Alvin Edwards and Vance Edwards; and sisters, Vera Burnett, Luna Hilliard, and Betty McKinney.
She graduated from Greer High School and Furman University. As she would tell you, she outlived both husbands, James H. Morris Jr 41 years, and Marvin T Mason 18 years, and centenarian boyfriend, Kurt Hahn. She lived in Charlotte most of her adult life except for 13 years in California. No matter where she lived, she stayed active raising four children; knitting, crocheting, and needlepointing gifts for others; chasing golf balls on the greens at Cedarwood Country Club; and playing bridge. As she aged, bridge was her passion; she was a ruthless player often heard saying, “Did you come to play or talk?”
She is survived by her children, James H. Morris (Jody) of Aptos CA, Thalia A. Morris of Asheville NC, B. Blair Morris (Gretchen) of Fairfax VA, and Sarah M Rehlich (Bill) of Portola Valley, CA; grandchildren, William J Rehlich (Michelle), Keenan T Rehlich, and Rebecca C Morris; and great granddaughter, Isabelle Kathleen Rehlich. She is also survived by stepdaughters, Tricia Mason Prillaman (Walt) and Pam Mason Wilde (Bob) and their families.
A special thanks to Chantayah Joseph, Dr. Catherine Ferrara, DO of Doctors Making House Calls, Liberty Homecare and Hospice Services, and all the caregivers at Carriage Club for their love and kindness in caring for her during her final days.
She requested no services and that her ashes be placed next to her first husband, James H Morris. Memorials can be made to Liberty Home Care and Hospice Services, 119 W. Wade Street, Wadesboro, NC 28170.
