He was part of the “Greatest Generation” as a Navy veteran in WWII and a barnstormer member with the Thrasher Brothers Aerial Circus in Athens, Georgia.
He was preceded in death by his wife Margaret in 2013. He is survived by his three children, Mike Woods (Debbie), Cheryl Eckard (Steve), Beverly Polson (Rocky, deceased); his eight grandchildren, April (Lee), Billy (Brittany), Anna (Dan), Erin (Will), Scott (Shelby), Matt (Taylor), Andrew, and Joseph; 15 great-grandchildren (plus 1 by marriage); and 1 great-great grandson. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather, and he was a humble, gentle, hardworking man with the heart of a servant.

Visitation will be at Thrift United Methodist Church, 8245 Moore’s Chapel Road, Charlotte, NC 28214 on Monday, January 10, 2022, at 1:00 pm in the Gym; Funeral at 2:00 in the Church; Interment will follow the service in Forest Lawn West Cemetery.
