
Thomas Hayes Edmisten, 83, died Wednesday, October 12, 2011 at Presbyterian Hospital. Born in Wilkes County on April 28, 1928, he was the son of the late Elisha F. and Maud B. Edmisten. Mr. Edmisten was a graduate of Appalachian State University where he received his bachelors’ and masters degree. He taught in the North Carolina Public School System for 30 years. Mr. Edmisten was a long time member of Cole Memorial United Methodist Church and will be remembered as a yellow dog Democrat.
Mr. Edmisten is survived by his wife of 55 years, Ina S. Edmisten; sister-in-law, Mrs. E.H. Edmisten; two nieces, JeNell Yoka and husband David, Wynn Strickland and husband Ben and
three great nephews, Benjamin Strickland, Eric Strickland and Daniel Yoka.
A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at 2:00PM, Friday, October 14th at Cole Memorial United Methodist Church with Rev. David Ortigoza and Rev. Patience Brumley officiating. The family will receive friends following the memorial service.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00AM, Saturday, October 15th at Ivy Green Baptist Church, 818 Old Lowgap Road, Mt. Airy, NC 27030.
