

Ed was born and raised in a loving home in Brevard, NC. Ed was active in Boy Scouts and attended several Scout camps, including Philmont in New Mexico. He graduated from Brevard High School where he excelled at cross-country, track, and tennis, and served as student body president. Ed continued his education at Appalachian State University where he enjoyed college life and his time as a TKE, before graduating with a B.S. in Business Administration with a concentration in Information Systems. Following graduation, Ed stayed in the Blowing Rock area establishing several successful businesses and met Anne Blevins, whom he professed as the “love of his life,” and married in 1985.
Ed began a long and successful career in healthcare administration, beginning with Blowing Rock Hospital, followed by Sun Health Corp. in Charlotte, and the Lash Group in Washington, DC, before establishing his independent healthcare consulting firm, Fanning Consulting. Ed came out of retirement to serve as CFO of Hospice of Union County in Monroe.
Ed was a wonderful friend to many. He was an involved member of Raintree Country Club for 36 years, and always had an entertaining toast and story to share. Ed was always ready for an adventure and was an avid world traveler, one of his favorite places being the Isle of Man.
Ed was predeceased by his father, Richard V. Fanning. He is survived by his wife, Anne Blevins Fanning, mother, Ruth Henson Fanning, brother, Ric Fanning, sister-in-law Susan Fanning, brother-in-law, Mark Blevins, sister-in-law Janet Blevins, nephews, Will Fanning and Troy Blevins, and niece, Katy Fanning.
A memorial service will take place Saturday, September 9th, 2023 at 2:00 pm at English Chapel United Methodist Church in Pisgah Forest, NC.
A celebration of life will take place Friday, September 15th, 2023 from 2:00 - 4:00 pm at Providence Presbyterian Church, 10140 Providence Church Lane, Charlotte, NC.
Memorials may be made to Tunnel to Towers Foundation or Charlotte Humane Society.
