

Born July 31st, 1947 in West Virginia, he was the son of the late Thomas Edward Tolbert and Virginia Elizabeth Conley. Following his graduation at Woodrow Wilson High School in Beckley, WV, Richard joined the Air Force and served for 4 years; then, enlisted in the Army for 3 years. During those years he served 2 Tours in Vietnam.
Richard was active in church and loved Jesus with his whole heart. The joy of Richard’s life was his family. He adored his wife, Janet, whom he married November 10, 1978. He was a devoted father, grandfather and great-grandfather! An avid hunter and fisherman, Richard spent many weekends in his camper/tree stand with his brothers, son, grandson and sons-in-law.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Janet Lee Tolbert and two brothers, Edward Tolbert (Liz) and Larry Tolbert (Patty); three children, Teresa Nester (Eric Stockman), Jeana Peigler (Ron), and Bobby Nester (Brittany Gennocro); nine grandkids, Jordan Stockman (Chris Durkin), Kelsey Mabry (Jason), Ashley Stockman, Jackson Peigler, Logan, Carsyn, Azylen, Mavis, and Nomi Nester; and five great-grandchildren, Kendal, Olivia, and Savannah Durkin, Jaxson & Wyatt Mabry.
The family will receive condolences at their home in Charlotte on Saturday, October 12th, 2024 from 2:00 pm-5:00 pm. A graveside service will be held at Roselawn Cemetery in Princeton, WV on Monday, October 14th, 2024 at 2:00 pm.
