

Vera Klein, 85, of Charlotte went to meet her Savior on September 26, 2016. Mrs. Klein was born June 10, 1931 to Russell and Hazeline (Stevens) Stikeleather. She was the youngest of eight children. Mrs. Klein attended Hoskins Elementary School and graduated from Thomasboro High School in 1949. After high school she worked for the Charlotte Health Department. Mrs. Klein also worked for 10 years at the A & P Meat Packing Plant until 1973 when she left to assist in the care of her parents. As a lifelong member of Chadwick United Methodist Church, she was instrumental in the merging of Chadwick and St. James Methodist churches into what is now Assurance United Methodist Church. In December of 1951 while visiting her sister in Philadelphia, she met the love of her life Mr. John Klein from New York. Mr. Klein was serving in the U. S. Marine Corps and was stationed in Philadelphia. He and Mrs. Klein were married four months later on April 26, 1952. Their first child, John Jr. (Jay) was born February 7,1953. Daughter Rhonda was born May 20, 1957.
She is preceded in death by her husband John and her parents. She is survived by her sister Yvonne Simko, son Jay, daughter Rhonda (Roger) and grandchildren Staci Hardee, Christa Hurley (Tyler), Britni McIntosh (Steve), Alayna Klein (Jamie Chance) and one great-grandchild Mason Hurley.
A service to celebrate her life will be Thursday, September 29 at 11:00 a.m. at Assurance United Methodist Church 9700 Mt. Holly-Huntersville Rd. Huntersville, NC 28078. Family will be accepting friends from 10:00 a.m. until the start of the service at 11:00 a.m. at the church.
Special thanks to family members Rick Stikeleather and Linda Bass who were so devoted to Vera during her last years.
Memorials can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in memory of Mrs. Vera Klein.
