Vera Jean Porterfield

Vera Jean Robinette Porterfield ,89, of Pineville passed away on August 11, 2016 surrounded by her loving children. Jean, a native of West Virginia was the wife of the late Bob Porterfield, a major league pitcher with the Washington Senators, New York Yankees, Pittsburgh Pirates before they retired to Charlotte, NC. Jean and Bob enjoyed a rich and famous lifestyle for the many years he played in the baseball field. He was inducted into the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame, his homestate where he was born and started his career.

Jean is predeceased by her loving husband, Bob Porterfield; brothers, James, William and George Robinette and sister, Lois Robinette.

Jean is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Sharon Porterfield of Fort Mill SC; daughter and son-in-law Sandi and Ron Bailey of Atlanta, GA and daughter and son-in-law, Cindi and Ed Conrad of Charlotte, NC. Jean is also survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Patricia J. and Garland Martin of Charlotte, NC and sister-in-law, Joyce Robinette of Lake Wylie, SC.

Jean leaves behind to cherish her memory 7 grandchildren and 8 great great-grandchildren, all of whom she loved dearly and unconditionally. Jean was the perfect hostess and enjoyed cooking and baking for her many family members, always wanting to make each visit with her a memorable one. She was in her glory preparing for and serving them. Each child and grand and great grandchild held a special in her heart.

The family will receive friends on Sunday August 14 from 7 – 9 pm at McEwen Pineville Chapel, 10500 Park Road. Funeral Service will be on Monday August 15 at 11 am at McEwen Pineville Chapel.
