Vernon Rhodell Barton

Mr. Barton, 73, of Charlotte, NC, died Saturday, August 11, 2012 at Presbyterian Hospital.

He was born September 9, 1938 in Elkhart, Indiana, one of five children to the late Saul Barton and Vada Miller Barton. He worked as a manager for Family Dollar for more than 25 years and for many years his store was named Top store for the company. He was an avid sports fan especially the Chicago Cubs and the Atlanta Braves.

The Barton family will greet friends 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM, Tuesday, August 14, 2012 at McEwen Funeral Service at Sharon Memorial. A service to celebrate his life will follow at 1:00 PM in the Chapel with The Reverend Gary Hudson officiating. Burial will follow in Gethsemane Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Barton is survived by his wife, Rachel Smith Barton of Charlotte, NC; his five children: Keith Barton and wife, Deborah of Salisbury, NC; Timothy Barton, Vernon Lee Barton both of Concord, NC, Christy Dawn Barton of Charlotte, NC and Rhonda Buchanan of VA; 7 grandchildren: John Allen Barton, Adam Barton, Josh Barton, Tabitha Allison, Shane Allison, Sabrina Allison and Jessica Allison; two great-grandchildren, Abby Ann and Faith Emmalee; two sisters: Thelma Thomas and Nola Aistrop and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Becky Rollings; sister, Virginia Aistrop and brother, Oliver Barton.

Memorials may be made in remembrance of Mr. Barton to the Harris Hospice Unit of Presbyterian Hospital, 200 Hawthorne Lane, Charlotte, NC.
