

The last survivor of nine children, Virginia was born on July 14, 1921, daughter of the late Reelus Gus Slaughter and Fatima Jane Stanfield Slaughter. Following her high school graduation, she furthered her education at Kings Business College. Her skills as an executive secretary allowed her to work for various companies including Central Piedmont Community College, the former State College, which became North Carolina State University, the Girl Scouts Charlotte office, Memorial United Methodist Church and eventually retiring from the law office of Attorney Joseph Grier.
Mrs. Bunn was a member of Memorial United Methodist Church where she participated in the Livingston Class and the church bowling league. During WWII she was a volunteer with the USO. Additionally, she was a member of the ladies golf leagues at Cedarwood and Larkhaven.
Preceding her in death was her husband, Dwight E. Bunn and a daughter, Kay O’Brien.
Survivors include her children, Teresa Graham and her husband, George of Pinehurst, NC, Jayne King and her husband, David of Charlotte, NC and Dwight David Bunn of Allensville, NC; a son-in-law, Tommy O’Brien of Richmond, VA; 5 grandchildren, Rob O’Brien, Scott O’Brien, Shannon Amra, Billy Laird and Alycia Whitlow; 4 great-grandchildren, Justus Rockwell, Douglas Whitlow III, Summer Whitlow and Zeinadine Amra along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are planned for 2:00 pm Wednesday, April15, 2015 at Wilson Funeral & Cremation Service, 5301 Albemarle Rd., Charlotte, NC 28212. Friends may visit with the family at the funeral home from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm on Wednesday.
Burial will take place in Evergreen Cemetery following the funeral service.
