Virginia "Jenny" Hall Helms

Virginia “Jenny” Hall Helms, 91, of Charlotte, NC passed away peacefully on March 6, 2021 at Caromont Regional Medical Center in Gastonia, NC. She was born in Charlotte on February 7, 1930 to the late John Roger Hall and Ethel May Hall.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Charles Allen “Chuckie” Helms, Jr.; siblings, Francis Swindler, Mary Norman, J.R. Hall, Norman Hall, Daniel “Rip” Hall, and George Hall; and her son-in-law, Marshall “Buck” Hinson, Sr.

Jenny was a lifetime member of Thrift Baptist Church, in Charlotte, where she was involved with the “Super 60’s” group. She worked in dietary for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (Wilson Middle School), for 16 years and the Mecklenburg County Election Board, specifically at Pawtuckett Elementary School.

Jenny loved spending time with her family, especially on holidays. She enjoyed reading her Bible, cooking for her family, trips to the beach, her puzzle books, her weekly beauty shop appointments, watching soap operas, and just swinging on her front porch.

Jenny is survived by her 2 daughters, Barbara (Bailey) Hinson of Belmont and Renee (Helms) Tamson of Denver; her 4 grandchildren, Tracey Smith of Gastonia, Christy Goodwin (Scott) of Lincolnton, Dana Howard (Paul) of Matthews, and Hannah Tamson (Tyler) of Mooresville; siblings, Marvin (Annette) Hall, Pat Harmon, and Richard "Dickie" Hall; ten great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

The family would like to express a sincere thanks to all of the staff, nurses and many friends at Alexandria Place Nursing Center and Rehab Facility, in Gastonia. The love and compassionate care you provided for our sweet Jenny these past 7 years will always mean the world to us.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 11, 2021 at 1 p.m. at Thrift Baptist Church, 8415 Moores Chapel Rd. Charlotte, NC 28214. A visitation will be held at 12 p.m. at the church until the time of service. Burial will follow the service at Forest Lawn West Cemetery, 4601 Freedom Dr. Charlotte, NC 28208.
