She was born on May 15, 1923 in Vienna, Austria and was the daughter of the late Armin Grossman and Riza Rosenberg Grossman. She was the beloved wife for 51 years of Milton Shumaker, who preceded her in death in 1996.
Ginny was a Holocaust Survivor and a proud American citizen since 1939, when the Waldman family of Norfolk, Virginia sponsored her immigration to this country.
She was a multiple award winning sales representative for both Bell South and AAA.
She was a member of Temple Israel, where she joyously served in the choir for many years. We know that she has now joined the heavenly choir. In addition to singing, she dearly loved chocolate, and every single purple flower and plant that God has ever made.
Her funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Sunday, November 24, 2013 in the Harry and Bryant Chapel in the Oaks, 500 Providence Rd., Charlotte. Interment will follow at 11 a.m. in the Hebrew Cemetery, 1801 Statesville Ave., Charlotte.
She will be dearly missed by her numerous friends, cousins and her beloved children: her daughter, Karen R. Shumaker of Charlotte, and her son, H. Dennis Shumaker and his wife, Lucy, of Marietta, Pennsylvania.
The family would like to thank White Oak Manor, the staff and social workers - especially Simone, April and Julia, and Hospice, for the love and care they provided Ginny in her final days.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Temple Israel Endowment, 4901 Providence Rd., Charlotte, NC 28226.
